UK Rolls the Dice on Brexit Elections

MPs in the U.K. parliament have opted to roll the dice and put their faith in the electorate.

A bill paving way for a December general election overcame its first major hurdle on Tuesday night.

MPs backed an election by a huge margin with 438 votes in favor and only 20 against.

Each of the U.K.’s main political parties is banking on a national ballot to unblock the Brexit paralysis in their favor

For opposition parties the opinion polls suggest Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister is on course to secure his long-craved parliamentary majority.

But if his campaign blunders, Johnson could fall short of a majority and leave the door open to his opponents, who are set to fight on a promise to soften Brexit.

The Prime Minister said he is ready to fight a "tough" general election after MPs voted for a 12 December poll.

Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage welcomed the election, tweeting that the deadlock is broken and Brexit now has a chance to succeed.
