Justice Ogembo was found dead at his home in Siaya on Wednesday morning. He had worked
for most of Tuesday, July 16, before retiring home alone, where his driver dropped him off.
On Wednesday, when the driver arrived to pick him up as usual, he found that Justice Ogembo
was not responding to calls and texts. Seeking help to access the house, the driver discovered the
body, police said. The driver informed the police that Justice Ogembo had complained of feeling
unwell on Tuesday before going to bed.
Authorities waited for the family to arrive to access and process the scene. Justice Ogembo was
alone at the time of his death, which was discovered on Wednesday, July 17, in the morning. The
body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further investigations.
Justice Ogembo’s death comes just days after another judge, Justice David Majanja, died
following complications from surgery.
In his condolence message, Siaya Governor James Orengo said: “Justice Ogembo had a
marvellous ability to listen intently, reflect quietly, and then interject, usually with a brief few
words that brought clarity in the courtroom. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
Appointed as a Judge of the High Court in 2016, Justice Ogembo began his judicial career as a
Magistrate in 2004. Since his appointment as a Judge, he has served at the Eldoret, Milimani, and
Siaya High Courts. He was admitted to the Roll of Advocates in 1993.
