Many people have difficulties and suffering because they don’t have something. It could be they don’t have money, food, clothing, love, among many other things.
When you read this excerpt John 2:1-11, not having something is not a problem at all. It is a condition that enables Jesus to be drawn into your life and work for you. Not having something enables you to rely on God.
1. We Have Neither Wine Nor Husband
In this excerpt, there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee. In a wedding everyone is supposed to be happy. But in this wedding there was a problem since they had ran out of wine. Having no wine meant that Jesus could now work for them.
Wine was not just meant for celebration only but also to serve as water which is a drink. When they had no wine, they could remember Jesus and He worked for them.
The same relates to John 4:17 “I have no husband,” the woman replied. Jesus said to her, “You are correct to say that you have no husband. Where the Samaritan woman confessed that she had no husband.
Because the woman did not have a husband, Jesus had to pass through Samaria John 4:4 and he must need go through Samaria to help this woman. He was able to become the true husband in the heart of this woman
Isaiah 54:5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
When you look at this situation where there is neither wine nor husband, it seems like it is very difficult. But in this case, Jesus is able to come and work for them.
The same applies to John 5:7 the impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me. where there is a man who had infirmity for 38 years confesses that there is no man to put him into the pool. At this point Jesus shows up to heal him. Lacking something is not a problem when you remember that Jesus is in the house with you.
2. As Long as Jesus is There My Lacking is Not a Problem
In John 7, when the people had no food, Jesus provided the food in plenty. As long as Jesus was available, lacking food was not a problem. In John 8, there was no one to neither restrain nor protect the woman caught in adultery from the stones. But Jesus came forth and protected her from the stones and condemnation.
Thus, are we difficulties because we don’t have children, money, good health, husband or someone to help us? Then change your perspective and see this situation as something good because Jesus is now able to work in your situation.
In Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knoweth not.
He tells us that we call unto Him and He will answer us and show us great and mighty things.
In John 2:9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom; the servants at the feast were able to experience Jesus.
3. How Can We Experience Jesus?
The master of the feast could not experience Jesus. How were the servants able to experience Jesus? The mother of Jesus had told the servants earlier on that whatever He tells you do itJohn 2:5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it. Whether whatever Jesus tells the servants make sense or not, they were supposed to do it.
Even though whatever was needed at the feast was wine but still the servants could draw water as instructed by Jesus and take to the master of the feast. They received the Word of Jesus the way it is and did it. Even though it did make sense they still did it.
They were able to throw away their thoughts and receive the Word the way it is. Those who receive the Word of Jesus even though it doesn’t make sense, they’re able to experience the work of Jesus. Although you don’t understand, whatever He tells you if you do it, you will experience the work of Jesus.
But even though He tells us in Jeremiah 33:3, call unto me and I will answer you, many people want it to make sense first so that they can call unto Him. No!!! We should call unto Him whether it makes sense or not.
In Genesis 41:55 and when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do,
Pharaoh tells Egyptians that whatever Joseph tells you do it (as they were lacking bread). Joseph saved the children of Israel from death and is thus a shadow of Jesus. The same way Jesus saved us. They were able to do as Joseph instructed them and in the end they’re saved from famine.
4. It’s Difficult to Understand but I Must Forsake my Thoughts
The Word of Jesus is difficult to understand hence we have to throw away our thoughts and receive the Word the way it is. If we try to understand it before we receive it, it will not make sense. Like look at Romans 3:23 for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. We have all sinned and come short of the glory of God.
Everyone is able to understand this but no one is able to understand Romans 3:24 being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus(not having done anything) by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. The redemption has been done by Jesus and not me, that’s why we receive the redemption of our sins (salvation) as a gift. But people want to work for it trying to understand it so that they receive it.
If you try to work and understand it, you can never receive it. If the servants of the feast in John 2 had tried to understand about the water instead of wine they would not have seen the works of Jesus. But they received the Word the way it is and saw the Word working.
In Genesis 41:55, the Egyptians received the Word of Joseph the way it is and they’re able to receive life. Let’s put down/throw away our thoughts and receive the Word of Jesus the way it is whether it makes sense or not.
