Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, has expressed regret over the
disturbances that occurred during the coalition’s recent meeting in Nairobi. In a statement,
Odinga offered his sincere apologies to journalists and leaders affected by the incident.
The disruption took place at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation when wiper leader
Kalonzo Musyoka went to read out the resolution
“Azimio leader Raila Odinga had just excused himself for an important meeting “ leaving Mr
Musyoka to read the statement, where a group of youths stormed the venue. While some of the
individuals involved are known, many remain unidentified by the parties. The planned post-
Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting was interrupted when Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s
speech was disrupted, and attendees were forcibly removed. The intruders also targeted
journalists covering the event, expelling them from the premises
Odinga noted, “The Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation has previously hosted significant
events without such incidents.”
Following the chaos, Azimio suspended the address but later released a statement summarizing
the meeting’s resolutions. A key point was the coalition’s decision not to participate in President
William Ruto’s proposed broad-based government following recent nationwide demonstrations.
Additionally, Azimio called for the immediate arrest of police officers linked to violence against
peaceful protesters since the Finance Bill demonstrations began on June 18, 2024
