Nine recruits were selected among 400 who participated in the ongoing KDF Recruitment exercise on Friday at Ihura Stadium in Murang’a East Sub-County, which was looking to recruit in three categories that is, regular recruits, cadet graduates, and defense forces constables.

Among the nine recruits, only one female managed to move on to the next stage of the process.

Lt. Col. Hosborn Wasike reported that the exercise was fair and transparent and only those who qualified meaning that they were physically fit and they had met the minimum qualifications both academically and health-wise.

“The exercise was smooth. We were checking for all the required documents and certificates while observing gender parity,” said adding only those who met the set minimum requirements were selected.

Most candidates were disqualified for not having their documents in order and not achieving the minimum grades in the different departments.

The Lt Col noted that some had an issue with a mismatch of names where names on their documents did not match those on their identity cards.

“Most of the candidates had their names appear differently in their certificates and were not matching with the names in their ID cards,” he said adding that it was interpreted to mean they were two different people in question hence grounds for ineligibility.

A lot of Kenyans expressed their disappointment and some called for a review of the selection criteria, as the KDF locked its door on them due to issues some described as minor and unnecessary. One youth, Kelvin Muriithi from Meru County expressed his disappointment as he failed to make the cut this being his 11th and final attempt.

Successful candidates in the cadet category will proceed to the Kenya Military Academy in Lanet, Nakuru County, for further processing. Meanwhile, confirmed General Duty Recruits and Tradesmen and Women will attend training at the Kenya Defense Forces Recruit Training School in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
