Malkia Strikers thump Egypt to clinch 10th title

Kenya Women’s Volleyball team Malkia strikers emerged victorious at the 2023 CAVB Africa Women’s Nations Cup, securing their 10th continental title on Thursday.

The firing Malkia Strikers showed no mercy for the Egyptian side thumping them 25-20 before making adding another in the third set hammering their rivals a whooping 25-14 to be crowned the African Champions.

This historic win brings an 8-year-long wait to a glorious end, firmly placing the 10th title in Kenya’s grasp.

Malkia Strikers were dominant as they saw off Egypt by three straight sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-14), and the victory was a great achievement

This is Malkia Strikers’ 10th continental title, and it is their first since 2015. They have fallen short in three editions, where they were defeated by Cameroon in 2017, 2019, and 2021 at the finals.

They had to beat Rwanda in their opening game by winning three sets before they faced Burkina Faso and, equally, reigned supreme.

Against Uganda, they registered three straight sets and followed that with a 3-1 win over Morocco. They sailed through to the quarterfinals after a win over Lesotho and saw off Nigeria 3-0 to book a place in the semi-final

Malkia strikers rivals Cameroon also could not stop Kenya’s march to the final as the queens beat Cameroon 3-1 .

After the historic win in Yaounde, Cameroon, President Ruto lauded the national queens.

“After eight years, your grit, hard work, resolve, and never-say-die spirit have brought the title back to Kenya. We celebrate you, and we are proud of you,” Ruto said in a statement.
