Earth Tremor Jolts Kenya: A 4.6 Magnitude Earthquake
Hits Near Nairobi

Kenya experienced an earth tremor on Tuesday night, with the tremor reported in various parts of
the country.

The event occurred at around 8:34 PM and lasted for approximately 30 seconds.
Residents in Kitengela, Ruaka, and Westlands reported feeling the tremor, which caused a wave
of concern and discussion across the region.
According to the Earthquake Monitor, the country experienced a strong magnitude 4.6
earthquake. The epicenter of the quake was located 87 kilometers (54 miles) away from Nairobi
and struck at around 8:32 PM.

The earthquake had a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, which
contributed to its strong impact in the areas near the epicenter.
“The shallow depth of the quake caused it to be felt more strongly near the epicenter than a
deeper quake of similar magnitude would,” the statement from the Earthquake Monitor read.
The tremor prompted a rush of reactions on social media, particularly on X, where several users
expressed their anxiety and shared their immediate thoughts during the event.

Some admitted to feeling as though the world was ending, which led them to consider repentance due to the
quake’s sudden and brief occurrence. While no major damages or injuries have been reported, the tremor served as a stark reminder of
the region’s vulnerability to seismic activities. Authorities and experts continue to monitor the
situation and provide updates to ensure public safety and preparedness for any potential
aftershock.
