NAIROBI, Sept. 26, 2025 — Airtel Africa Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Airtel Africa plc, announced on Friday a continent-wide strategy to improve the lives of 10 million people by 2030. The plan focuses on four core pillars: financial empowerment, education, environmental protection, and digital inclusion.
“Our 2030 vision is a transformed Africa where over 10 million lives are directly improved through our interventions,” said Dr. Segun Ogunsanya, chairman of the Airtel Africa Foundation. “We are not just donating resources, we are building a pipeline of talent and fostering innovation to ensure the global digital revolution leaves no African behind.”
The Foundation will scale its efforts through initiatives such as “Connecting Schools,” which provides free internet access and devices, and the “Airtel Africa Fellowship,” offering full scholarships in technology and STEM fields alongside mentorship and internships.
Early achievements highlight the Foundation’s reach. In partnership with UNICEF, more than 1,800 schools have been connected, benefiting over 1 million students and training 17,000 teachers across 14 countries where Airtel Africa operates.
The Foundation will also expand its Employee Volunteer Programme, channeling staff skills into community projects across its markets, including Nigeria, Zambia, Malawi, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Airtel Africa Chief Executive Officer Sunil Taldar said the Foundation reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable growth. “We cannot thrive in a place that is not thriving,” Taldar said. “Helping to connect the unconnected, banking the unbanked, and enabling businesses and economies to thrive are the three most significant objectives of our business.”
The Foundation stated that its 2025/26 financial year targets include expanding active programs to all of its operating countries.
