Seven Kenyan Peanut Brands Banned By Rwandan Authorities
Only a week ago after Kenyan authorities banned seven brands of peanut butter in the country, Rwanda has also decided to take the same measures by placing a ban on the same products.
Kenya Bureau of Standard (KEBS) on November 4, banned seven brands namely; Truenutz by Truenutz Kenya Ltd, Fressy by Fressy Food Company Limited and Supa Meal by Supacosm Products Limited , Nuteez by Jetlak Foods Limited, Sue’s Naturals by Nature’s Way Health, Zesta by Trufoods Limited and Nutty by nature by Target Distributors.
KEBS instructed the manufacturers to stop production and recall stock already supplied until they ensure corrective measures .
Following the ban, it has been made public by the Rwanda Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) instructing people to stop consuming the products.
FDA’s acting Director-General, Dr Charles Karangwa, further directed the stop of the importation, distribution and sale of the “incriminated” brands and return the same to suppliers during investigations.
Dr Karangwa further instructed all importers and supermarkets to submit reports, within 10 working days, on imported, distributed, returned quantities and available quantities of each brand.
