NTSA to assist Police in new traffic crackdowns

Traffic officers will receive support in the most recent round of traffic crackdown.

The exercise will target reduction of road carnage by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).The road safety agency will work together with the police in the crackdown that commenced on Tuesday 1, October 2019.

NTSA data shows that deaths on Kenyan roads increased by 15%.That brings the number to 2,326 in the year to October.

This week, NTSA officers conducted surprise operations along the Nyeri — Nairobi highway.

A tussle is brewing between the NTSA and police following allegations that the authority relinquish law enforcement work to the police.

NTSA has now been allegedly striped off any authority to arrest or detain any suspected offenders without the police presence.
