Jimna Kubia, a senior official at Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company (NAWASCO) has been released on police bail following his arrest after demanding a Ksh 50,000 bribe to reconnect water supply to a residential unit in Kahawa West, Nairobi.

Jimna Kubia, a supervisor at NAWASCO, had allegedly disconnected the water supply demanding a fictitious Ksh 10,000 water bill arising from a faulty meter. The suspect summoned the complainant to his office in Pangani where he threatened to increase the alleged “pending water bill” from Ksh 10,000 to Ksh 240,000 if the Ksh 50,000 bribe was not paid.

The complainant reported the matter to EACC, and the suspect was arrested at Kariobangi South on Monday, where he had gone to meet the complainant to collect the bribe.

He faces charges under the Bribery Act, 2016 looking at a fine not exceeding five million shillings or imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years, or both based on the court’s decision.
