Irung’u Kangata Fires All Medical Superintendents.

Murang’a county boss Irungu Kang’ata has laid off all medical superintendents in the county Level 4 and Level 5 hospitals pending an internal suitability test with effect from September 7th.

In a statement to the press on Tuesday 22nd August, the governor noted that his government has resolved to make reforms in the health sector,  those reforms included the introduction of a mandatory test in deploying medical superintendents.

“The chief officer in charge of health will issue a notice on Wednesday 23 August 2023 inviting applications for doctors interested to act as medical superintendents in respective hospitals,” the governor said.

The assessment as noted by the county boss will be conducted by a committee that will be in consultation with the office of the county secretary and the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Health, Dr Fredrick Mbugua.

The committee will shortlist 3 top doctors who will undergo an oral examination before a committee to be constituted by the chief officer of health and county secretary. The successful candidate will serve for a one-year renewable term.

“At the renewal stage, a client satisfaction survey will be conducted to determine the necessity of renewal.” the governor added.

The county boss gave an order that Dr. Frederick Mbugua and all other senior officers have a month to automate systems in all 157  medical facilities in the county in a bid to address complaints of lack of medicine in the facilities failure to which the county Executives will take action against them.

The governor did not fail to acknowledge that there have been hitches in the digitization program has been facing problems He asked the public for a little patience as they solve the issue.

“We are working to have the system stabilize for efficiency and these complains will be things of the past,” he said.

On other reforms, the county boss made a cabinet reshuffle which moved CEC Public Service James Gatuna from the public service department to the lands department. Winnie Mwangi was moved from land to public service.

Chief officer for social services and culture Angela Kioko was moved to education while Kennedy Kihato was moved to culture and social services. Isaac Karoga was moved from education to health.   

Transport manager Daniel Mburu was redeployed to the Department of Health and was replaced by Fridah Waithera from the Department of Revenue.
