Governor Anyang Nyong’o responds to claims of kicking away non-Kisumu Residents.

Kisumu Governor, Prof. Anyang Nyong’o, has denied claims published by a local daily alleging that he chased away traders from the Maseno Area which is under him

The governor, on Tuesday 23rd August 2023, said that the reports that claimed that the dispute between Kisumu and Vihiga counties was what led to his decision were misleading and denied the existence of any dispute.

“The newspaper story is not true. There is no fresh boundary dispute between Kisumu and Vihiga counties, as the boundaries are well-demarcated,” the governor responded.

He added that Maseno is being elevated to become a municipality and what is going on is to be able to transform the town into an urban center.

Prof. Nyong’o further requested that all traders from Kisumu and Vihiga only operate in areas designated by the county.  He also warned that his government would hold anybody accountable if found mistreating Vihiga people living and working in Maseno.

The leaflets that were given to the traders to take down their stalls became an issue as traders said that it was meant to chase them away whilst the governor claimed that they were official notices by the Kisumu government to traders for them to pull down their illegal structures constructed on road reserves and not to chase them away.

The governor did not fail to urge the members to maintain physical planning regulations. He also requested people from Vihiga to stop creating rumors which would bring about tensions and hatred between the two counties and support the Maseno development.
