Ten people were left nursing serious injuries on Sunday after an aircraft they were traveling in crashed and caught fire in the Kiunga area along the border of Kenya and Somalia in Lamu County.
It was reported that the aircraft, a 5Y-GOK Cesna 208, flew to Kiunga last week to pick up students from Kibaoni who had excelled in the KCPE examinations for a trip to Nairobi. It flew the students back safely on Sunday.
The incident which was captured in a 31-second clip showed that as the plane was ascending from the Kiunga airstrip with ten people on board that is two pilots, seven army officers, and one police officer, before it suddenly hit electricity poles and crashed, bursting into flames and burning beyond recognition right in front of a crowd that had gathered.

Following the crash, the victims were immediately rushed to Wajir County Referral Hospital where they were referred to Nairobi for specialised treatment.
The crash affected a significant portion of the area where the plane landed which included a ramshackle house situated within the vicinity.
The cause of the crash is yet to be established as investigations are yet to be concluded.
